The Santa Clarita Valley Blues Society would love to revive this special program. It seems to have fallen by the wayside and would be a great way to "Keep The Blues Alive" If you have interest in
leading this project to help The SCV Blues Society deliver this educational experiences to students of all ages. Please contact us. The Society wants to expose "The Blues", the roots and
heritage of modern American music, to young people of the Santa Clarita Valley in an effort to spark an interest in, and an appreciation for the blues and all of the musical art forms.
Blues music is America's music and young people especially, should know about the musical heritage of America and of the Blues. Educating them on how America's music has evolved and how the Blues
form the roots of today's popular music is important to use in their teaching.
The recognition and exposure that Blues music has recently received from advertising, and most recently from the award winning movie "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou" has let more people appreciate the sound, style and art that defines the Blues.
With our resurected "Blues In the Schools" program, SCV Blues Society musicians, would combine with a culturally diverse all volunteer staff of former educators, music professionals and others with a
genuine interest in child development, With leadership this group could be invited into schools to conduct different programs tailored to specific age groups.
We will teach the history of the Blues, familiarize the students with famous Blues musicians, different styles of Blues, and how to write, sing and perform the Blues.
While our program is in its dormancy and hoping to obtain the required support and finances to put on these programs, we have strong feelings that it will succeed.
We recognize it is very beneficial to expose children whose musical experience may be limited to just what they hear from older siblings or what they may see and hear on commercial Radio, the
internet and TV to additional forms of traditional music.
We will attempt to provide a small amount of the history behind the Blues, a small amount about how the Blues has evolved to the music of today, a touch of music composition and education all mixed together with a whole lot of fun.
